“If you want to make your baby girl a quilt, you make her a quilt!” That’s what my sewing mentor and friend, Frances, commanded me. “But Frances, I can barely sew a button,” I sheepishly responded.
Well, the quilt was completed just in time for my daughter, Sabrina’s, birth. But what was I to do with the lovely scraps? With Frances’s guidance, I eventually crafted my first jumper-- then a houndstooth and owl combination dress. And then I couldn’t stop. And I found out my passion wasn’t dedicated to sewing, but rather to designing.
The beaming online postings of, “Look what I made!” were met with replies of,“Can you make one for me?” And another one for her, then one for the niece, and one for my best friend’s baby shower next week. And so á La Modish was born.
The styles you see are combinations of my love for all things old: people, houses, cars, and of course, fashion. Mixed with all things new: fresh fabrics, lively children, or peonies showing off their new petals every spring.
This is my á La Modish story. What will yours be? Make happy memories.
